Debbie Jacobs - Vryheid, South Africa
On Saturday 10 June 2006 we had our pre-comrades function at Dee’s Restaurant in Vryheid. After the main events at around 17h30, I decided to take some pasta to my 14year old daughter whom was studying at home. Even though it was starting to get dark, I walked home, after all; it was only 2 blocks away. On my way back to the restaurant I was walking quite briskly…; my moon-bag tied around my waist. I greeted and smiled at a well-dressed man passing me on the same side of the road. Suddenly, I was pushed down onto the sand-stoned pavement as he attempted to rip my moon-bag from my waist. He succeeded at breaking the strap off but I gripped onto the bag part so hard that my nails broke off! I was trying to use my legs for defense and I was screaming as loud as I could. But. . . No-one could hear me! Not a single soul passed by or heard me from their homes. No cars came passed… . . . nothing! The restaurant was 150 meters away but the music was too loud for anyone to hear me. Suddenly, my attacker just stopped and ran. There was no-one stopping him or even shouting at him; I didn’t even get a chance to kick him! He still had plenty of time to kick me in my side so I can let go of the moon-bag . . . no-one was interfering. The moon-bag was loose, I was on the ground, he was in the perfect position to get what he wanted and to top it all, I was his second attempt for the day so he must have thought “this time I won’t fail”. But he did! He failed because Jesus and His angels were looking after me that day! I was wearing my ChristianGear® T-shirt that said “Just Jesus” underneath my comrades sweater. I often wonder what my attacker saw or felt that day in June…. . . Did the word JESUS shine into his eyes through the sweater I had on over my ChristianGear® T-shirt or did an angel touch him from behind? What I do know is that I was protected in a very special way because someone obeyed God’s calling to brand Jesus’ name on clothing and to pray over every item before sending it to its’ customers. That prayer over my T-shirt is what protected me. The best is, I can wash my T-shirt over and over and over again but that prayer of protection will never wash away!!! |
